FORM, STRUCTURE, MOTIVES, AND FACTORS OF COLLABORATIONS IN CRIMEA (1941—1944)

Abstract
The article discusses the reasons why the previously used terms such as ‘traitor’, ‘public enemy’,
‘treason to the Motherland’ became no longer corresponding to the spirit of war and post-war times. The proposed
authors’ version of collaborationism classification includes economic, military-political, administrative, and
household aspects. Age features are considered in the following groups: older, primary, and teenage. A particular
attention is devoted to the peculiarities of female collaboration in Crimea, including ‘sexual’, which consists both
from legal work in ‘tolerance houses’ created in the occupied territory and individual cohabitation with German
soldiers. The authors propose an interpretation of guilt as of personal attitude towards own misconduct and harmful
consequences, provided the presence of the causal relationship between committed misconduct and named
consequences. The authors also offer the classification of the extent of responsibility for such actions. The forms and
duration of collaboration are structured as flash, short-term, long-term, and potential. The quantitative nature of
collaboration is defined as single, significant, and massive. According to the authors’ opinion, collaboration in the
Crimea during 1941-1944 was of no single but significant nature. The ideological, egocentric, gregarious, passive,
work-related, natural, and situational motives that pushed each specific person onto the path of collaboration are
examined. Each quoted case is supported by specific examples from occupied Crimea living.

Key words: Crimea, occupation, collaborations, treachery, treason to the Motherland, guilt, responsibility.
