PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF VARIOUS FILTERS IN DESPECKLING OF ULTRASOUND KIDNEY IMAGE

Abstract
In the modern world, processing of an digital image playing an essential role in medical diagnosis, treatment and education.
Different modalities like CT, X-ray, MRI, PET and ultrasound medical images are acquired from different living objects. Even though
different modalities are available, ultrasound(US) image is mostly used because it is non-invasive and economical in nature. Since it
is low cost, the noise component present in the ultrasonic image is large. The speckle-noise present in ultrasonic image worsen the
quality of an image. Also limit the image contrast resolution in furtherimage processing steps. Speckle-noise present in the US image
to be reduced without degrading the image integrity. Speckle reduction is the essential role of research, which helps to interpret,
segment, classify and retrieve the image effectively by preserving the feature details and textures of the ultrasound image. In this
proposed system various filters have been used to denoise the ultrasound kidney image. Herewith 100 images have been tested using
various denoising filters and the comparative performance can be made using various parametric measures such as SSIM(structural
similarity index), AD(average difference), PSNR(peak signal-to-noise ratio),NAE(Normalized absolute error), SNR(signal-to-noise
ratio), MSE(mean square error), MD(maximum difference), SC(structural content), LMSE(Laplacianmean square error),
NCC(normalized cross correlation), BRISQE, PIQE and NIQE. Experimental results of the various filters in despeckling of ultrasound
kidney image were analyzed based on the parametric value and to identify the better filter to despeckle the noise by preservingfeatures
and textures of the image.
