    Abstract

Soil is the naturally occurring fragmented, porous, and relatively loose assemblage of mineral particles and organic matter that covers the surfaces of our planets terrestrial domains. The valley of Kashmir is endowed with different soil types with unique characteristics. The present study has shown that soils of Kashmir exhibit differences in their physical and chemical characteristics, as well as in their capability for different crops. It was found that the soils found in rest of India are also found in the valley but there are few soils which are different from the rest of India.
