    Abstract

Females and males playing hockey together has caused great debate regarding the safety, ethics, and physiological differences of "girls" playing against "boys." However, there are no objective performance criteria that suggest female hockey players should not play with, or against, age-matched males. Research to compare the on-ice and off-ice physical performance characteristics of females and males will help answer questions regarding inter-gender hockey and further the understanding of female hockey players. The purpose of this study was to compare years of playing experience, off-ice fitness, on-ice performance skating, and on-ice anaerobic power of female and male ice hockey players between the ages of 10 and 15 years
