    A Study of the Impact of Parenting Style on Academic Achievement of Students (2020)

    Abstract

    The present study was attempted to examine the impact of parenting style on academic achievement of students. In order to aware and provide sustenance measures, it is essential to investigate common impacts of different parenting typologies on children�s activities, engagement and ultimately, on their academic achievement in school. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed in this investigation with the sample of 120/150 students from five (5) secondary school to generate data. The instrument to measure parenting style was used the parenting style scale. Pearson Product Correlation was used in measuring the research question, while for testing the research hypotheses the t-test was used. The major findings from this study showed that autocratic parenting style has positively mediated on academic achievement. The result of this study also showed that permissive parenting style negatively correlation with academic achievement. Thus, it is recommended that parents should be educated on impart of the parenting style they adopt in fostering their children on their academic achievement
