MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AND ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF THE INCOME GENERATING PROJECTS OF THE STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES

Abstract
This study is done to determine the level of practices of the State Universities and Colleges in Region I in the management and operation of their Income-Generating Projects (IGPs) and to assess the economic benefits derived from their IGPs along employee benefits, generation of employment, improvement of school facilities, and project expansion. It focuses on the levels of practices of the SUCs in the management and operation of their IGPs in terms of organization, human resource management, financial management, marketing management, and operational guidelines and activities. It also concentrates on the assessment of economic benefits of the IGPs in terms of employee benefits, generation of employment, improvement of school benefits, and project expansion. The study involves all SUCs in Region I. The respondents of the study were identified based on the organization structure of the IGPs of the respondent-institutions. The respondents were the vice presidents who oversee the IGPs, the IGP directors, IGP chiefs, Business Affairs Office heads and assistant heads, IGP coordinators and the project managers/leaders/in-charge of the respondent-institutions and the key informants who are the people who, by virtue of their positions, are familiar with how the IGPs are being managed and operated. For this study, correlation tool was used and the results show that SUCs have high levels of practices in the management and operation of IGPs, the IGPs have high impact on SUCs, and the management and operation practices significantly influence the economic benefits of the IGPs.
